Each box contains original museum artefacts, supplementary material and cross curricular links and activities. The boxes provide excellent support to any visit you make to our venues, as well as inspiring children in the classroom through handling original and replica objects.
Whether you want to stimulate creative writing, or simply learn about the wonders of plastic, our loans boxes offer all kinds of exciting and intriguing starting points for further learning in your classroom. (See attached sheet for more details of each loans box)
Throughout the spring term, we will be offering one of the loans boxes for free for one week, making a saving of £30 to your school. Book early to avoid disappointment!
Look out for the new ‘Grand Day Out’ loans box available from Easter 2010. ‘A Grand Day Out’ takes C.W. Nicholls’ painting ‘Courtship on the Beach’ as inspiration, and takes children on a journey back to Victorian Scarborough. Focusing on Scarborough’s seaside, children will learn how the railway impacted on Scarborough’s rise as one of the elite holiday destinations for the rich and famous of the time.
‘Paint One Picture’
For the forthcoming ‘Bathing Beauties’ exhibition (13 March – 9 May 2010), we invite you and your school to come along to a free half-day workshop at Scarborough Art Gallery. The session will focus on the history of Scarborough’s seaside and will culminate in children recreating ‘Courtship on the Beach’ by C.W. Nicholls which can be viewed in our Permanent Collection. All artwork completed by the children will go on display in Gallery A at Scarborough Art Gallery during the exhibition.
Booking is essential for all educational groups visiting one of our venues.
