Temporary Exhibitions
Unpopular Culture – Exhibition
Sat 16 May – Sun 5 Jul
Grayson Perry, Turner prize winner and ‘transvestite potter’ has always positioned himself on the margins of the art world. This exhibition offers work selected by him from the Arts Council Collection alongside his new work made in response to the Collection. He has chosen modern British paintings, sculpture and photographs that embody a quiet nostalgia and restraint. Some of the choices are surprising and reflect Perry’s alternative view of British Art. The exhibition includes work by L.S. Lowry, Henry Moore, John Bratby and Eduardo Paolozzi, giving a certain irony to the title.

Rock My Boat – Exhibition
Sat 18 Jul – Sun 20 Sep
“I make large wobbly sculptures which are often humorous” says Johnny White of his kinetic sculptures. Working with his partner Amanda Wray his outstanding engineering skills and mischievous imagination deliver work in which the orderly and the joyous exist jointly. Using metal, motors and other salvaged materials, White’s quirky creations are the product of an irreverent and zany sense of humour. The work he and Amanda are bringing to Scarborough includes a fantastic and specially created bright red speedboat and a ghost eating toast hanging from a lamppost. This exhibition makes you laugh which is exactly the intention of White & Wray.
